Safeguarding Children Policy Statement
Provider Name: Crafty Kids (Chelmsford)
Date of Policy: 01.01.2026

1. Purpose and Scope
The purpose of this policy is to protect children and young people who attend my art classes. This policy applies to me, Hayley Stanbrook, as a self-employed teacher. I believe that no child or young person should ever experience abuse of any kind. I have a responsibility to promote the welfare of all children and young people and to keep them safe.
2. My Commitment
To keep children safe, I will:
-
Value, listen to, and respect children.
-
Maintain an up-to-date Enhanced DBS Check.
-
Ensure I have appropriate insurance.
-
Ensure that I am never alone in a closed room with a single child (Lone Working Policy).
-
Follow the "Safe Collection" procedure (only releasing children to pre-authorized adults).
3. Photography and Social Media
-
Only take photos of children or their work with written parental consent.
-
Never tag children in photos or include their full names on social media.
-
Store all digital images securely.
4. Responding to Concerns
If a child tells me they are being hurt, or if I notice signs of abuse, I will:
-
Listen carefully and stay calm.
-
Reassure the child that they have done the right thing by telling me.
-
Record what was said or seen accurately as soon as possible.
-
Contact the appropriate authority.
In Essex, the safeguarding process is managed through the Essex Safeguarding Children Board (ESCB). I understand and will follow the standard procedure depending on the urgency.
Immediate Danger: If I believe a child is in immediate danger I will call 999 immediately. After calling the police, I will call the Essex Children & Families Hub (Priority Line) on 0345 603 7627.
Reporting a Concern (Non-Emergency): If I have a "Level 3 or 4" concern (serious enough that a social worker needs to be involved, but not an immediate 999 emergency), I will contact the Children & Families Hub.
5. Health & Safety in the Workspace (anywhere where classes or parties are being held).
-
All art materials (paints, solvents, tools) are non-toxic and age-appropriate.
-
Sharp tools (e.g. scissors) are only used under direct supervision.
-
A first aid kit is always present during sessions.
-
We are a nut-free zone, and ask parents to agree to this condition upon booking a ticket.
-
We ask parents when booking to disclose any known allergies, when booking a ticket, so as to ensure children are not exposed to anything that may be harmful to them.
